My top picks of the best dog training and behaviour books. There are plenty more titles available and anything by these authors makes for reliable reading.
The Perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey
Complete Idiot's Guide to Positive Dog Training by Pamela Dennison
(I would highly recommend both of the first two books for any new dog owners)
Control Unleashed by Leslie McDevitt (great for hyper and reactive dogs as well as those who do agility. I use several of the training games as part of behaviour programmes)
The Culture Clash, Mine! and Fight! by Jean Donaldson (The Culture Clash is my favourite dog book of all time. Mine! is about resource guarding and Fight! is about aggression. They are aimed at dog owners not specialists so great for clients.
My Dog Pulls: what do I do, Barking: the Sound of a Language and Calming Signals by Turid Rugaas
Canine Body Language by Brenda Aloff
Dogs by Ray Coppinger (more of an in depth read for the enthusiast, tells you all about the evolution of dogs and their behaviour)
Dominance: Fact or Fiction? by Barry Eaton (the truth about dominance)
Dont Shoot the Dog by Karen Pryor (introduction to clicker training and more)
Clicking with your Dog by Peggy Tilman (how to get started with clicker training)
The Other End of the Leash, I'll Be home Soon and Feeling Outnumbered by Patricia McConell (dog reactivity, separation anxiety and living in multi dog households- suitable for owners)
If Bones would Rain from the Sky by Suzanne Clothier
When Pigs Fly! Training Success with Impossible Dogs by Jane Killion
