The beginners class is a 6 week course for dogs over 6 months of age. There is a maximum of 8 dogs per class with 2 instructors to ensure everyone gets plenty personal attention. Each session lasts an hour. The course covers basic skills such as sit, lie down, stay, leave, coming back when called and walking on lead. It also covers socialisation, appropriate greetings, self control, grooming and handling, health and welfare. The emphasis of the course is on good manners rather than traditional obedience. We encourage owners to develop their understanding of training so that they know how to teach any skill rather than only those taught during the course. Using a clicker to train is encouraged but by no means compulsory. All training uses modern science backed methods which are kind, gentle and very effective. Each session comes with handouts on training and other issues.
The final week is a fun games night and informal test. All participants receive a rosette and certificate plus hopefully a prize or two!
Cost of course: £50
Location: Currie Youth Club
Time: Thursdays at 7:05pm
2012 class start dates: Thursday 16th February, Thursday 29th March, Thursday 10th May

Our intermediate class is for dogs or puppies over 6 months who have already learnt basic skills such as those covered in the puppy class. It is a follow on class for those who have completed either the puppy or beginners course or for any new starts who want to carry on improving their dogs training with the support of an instructor. It allows for ongoing socialisation as well as training in a distracting environment. Skills commonly needing more ongoing work include coming when called and loose lead walking as well as stays, retrieves or anything needing more duration or distance. It is not suitable for dogs with issues towards other dogs. Please see our Reactive Rovers class.
There is no set course to follow, it is up to each owner what they wish to work on at each session although we may have some demo's and fun stuff to try too! Before you begin you will be asked to set out what you want to achieve and then given goals to reach each week. If you meet your own aims by the end of the 6 weeks you will receive a certificate.
